View RecordsDearborn County criminal-record research can require both Indiana’s state repository product and the judiciary’s county case information, depending on the question.
For Indiana criminal-history information, the Indiana State Police Limited Criminal History service is a state repository route. For Dearborn County court cases, use Indiana’s judicial case system. A state limited criminal history and a county court file answer different questions.
| Need | Official Indiana route | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Indiana limited criminal history | Indiana State Police | Indiana felony and misdemeanor arrest information only; completeness depends on county participation, and other states are not included |
| Dearborn County criminal court case | Indiana MyCase / court | Public case information made available by the judiciary |
| Certified or underlying court document | Court/clerk process | The actual court record when an index is not enough |
Indiana State Police defines the scope of its Limited Criminal History product, while Indiana’s judicial system provides public case information through MyCase. A Dearborn County case can therefore appear in a court search even though the researcher is asking a broader state criminal-history question, and the two sources should not be described as interchangeable.
Start with the state repository when its defined criminal-history product is the object you need. Use the county court case when you need filings, docket events, or the court disposition. If a name produces several candidates, compare the county, dates, case number, and permitted identifying information before connecting the record to a person. Keep the phrase “Dearborn County search” attached to the court result so its geographic scope remains clear.
ISP’s search uses name, date of birth, race and gender, with Social Security number and birthplace if needed. Prepare the required identifiers for the official request. Its Indiana felony/misdemeanor arrest coverage depends on county participation; it is not an all-state record.
Use the Indiana judiciary’s Dearborn County page to reach MyCase or the local court/clerk contacts. Search the public case information and confirm Dearborn County on the result. If the document is not available online, contact the clerk in the county hearing the case for a copy; official court records come from the court that maintains them.
Match date, jurisdiction, and case identifiers before treating a same-name record as the same person.
A Dearborn County court search tells you about records in the Indiana court system associated with that county and query. It does not establish that no record exists in another Indiana county or another state. If the purpose requires broader scope, add the state repository or other jurisdictions deliberately and label each result. That keeps the page faithful to its Dearborn County intent without overstating a local search as nationwide history.
